not existent. we have 1.25 mile visibility at half moon bay and 1.75 mile visibility in santa rosa. ten miles for the prosecute of the bay area. the cold front is coming from the pacific northwest where they are expensing 10- to 20-degree drop in temperatures from yesterday, just 24 hours ago through washington and oregon. the cold front comes into san francisco over northern california the next couple of days. by tonight that is where we will expense the chilly temperatures and, also, gusts that come in monday into tuesday and tuesday through thursday are the coolest temperatures. our day planner the next 12 hours, we going to wake up to cooler temperatures in the bay area so dress warmly. by noon, it will ramp up and we will be warmer than we were yesterday. the cold comes right back in the evening hours with the full seven-day forecast in a moment. we have problems on the roads and one is in daly city traveling along 280 if you are headed along in the northbound direction this started out as a stall but it turned and an accident and we do see a little bit of slowing coming and going and c.

. your morning commute will run into some patchy fog. in santa rosa, a chance of brief showers. all of us are going to get this taste of this arctic express, which is blasting down the northern half of the country. we're looking at temperatures during the next couple of days, not so much tomorrow, but by tuesday and wednesday only in the low 50s. very similar to the temperatures we have outside right now. you couple that with the winds 10 to 15 miles per hour, we will have a wind chill factor in the bay area this week. speaking of freezing temperatures, we've had some patchy frost so far this fall, but not like this. temperatures in the valleys by thursday morning in the mid 20s. areas south of san jose will dip below freezing. what's unusual is that we'll be spending from midnight at freezing all the way until just before sunrise in the mid to upper 20s, so we're looking at a few hours staying below freezing. friday morning likely into saturday as well. look at that high temperature from napa. only 49 degrees on thursday. you'll see the change addressed over the next three days. low 50s

in santa rosa and napa and novato and livermore 49 degrees. and check out the view. i have to step aside. it has been dumping in the sierra nevada. this is coming down from the lake tahoe cam. this is heavenly. snow here in the bay area, but not that much. over the hill, 1500 to 2500. a freeze warning goes up sunday into monday morning. so we will be looking at freezing cold conditions behind the front. the cold front is moving in which is why the rain is intensifying. as you look at the computer animation, all is not lost for your weekend. 1:00 a.m. the rain line is shifting into well south of south bay and into the monterey bay. and then it is all done. so now it looks like clearing early for your saturday plans. could be a light shower and maybe lingering around the monterey bay. winter weather advisory above 1500 feet. north bay mountains until 6:00 a.m. for the santa cruz mountains, the diablo range 2500 foot elevation until 10:00 expecting a couple inches of snow. the north bay is already seeing clearing. you could -- ukiah the snow has cleared. expecting 24 inches in the mountains

soon. overnight lows for tomorrow morning. 28 in santa rosa. 29 in fairfield. these numbers could dip even further out in the valley. upper 20s, low 30s. oakland 39 degrees. not 28, but 39 degrees in an urban area is a big deal. you have lots of issues when you get that kind of cold in the urban center. that's what we are going to see. temperatures will not just be cold at night but during the day as well. daytime highs in the low 50s and ier 40s into wednesday and thursday. that will be very noticeable. tomorrow, 49 in napa. that is a daytime high. daytime high in pleasanton. daytime high in livermore. temperatures, most of us will be in the upper 40s, low 50s. freeze warning tomorrow morning for the north bit. late tonight, early tomorrow morning. freeze warning wednesday night into thursday morning for the rest of the bay area excluding san francisco. what happens here, p we will talk about this more, but friday we have a chance for some showers. we see some significantly low snow levels with this. that's going to warm us up a little bit. we'll look forward for the chance of rain.

you the overnight lows tonight. we'll get down to 22 degrees in santa rosa tonight. 27 san jose and down to 23 degrees at concord. and with clear skies, that will bring it will numbers down as well. we're looking at readings just above freezing around oakland and livermore and concord right now. santa rosa dipped below freezing though at 30 degrees as we look live to the bay bridge from the roof cam. wind speeds too. ic cause me they were imto -- out of the northwest at about 15 to 20 miles an hour earlier and they are now beginning to relax and that's going to let temperatures go down more as you get windier conditions and the numbers don't get quite as cool. but now the wind are down under 5 miles an hour for the most part. and temperatures tonight by 8:00 we're already down into the mid 40s. and for tomorrow, we'll see them recover to about the near 50-degree range along the coast. but still around the bay and inland we're from 10 to 15 degrees below average. we'll see highs only in the mid 40s tomorrow. so it's happening is that low that was over california is now moving int

of the rainfall totals over the last 24 hours. .47 in napa. .4 in santa rosa. almost .3 for oakland, san francisco picking up almost .4. san jose picking up .13. we have seen snowfall in areas right around the santa cruz mountains, right over the summit, mount st. helena has reported a little snow. northern areas of napa county reported some snow yesterday. a few sprinkles that may or may not be hitting the ground at this point. it's sort of fascinating when we get that snow in our local hills. i'm seeing a little here remaining. that moisture over mount diablo. the altamont pass area stretching across 580. this is just the very tail end. we're going to see this actually continue to move to the south. if you are going to tahoe this weekend, still snow with an advisory over tahoe until 10:00 a.m. for the west slope droiring up to tahoe it's until 4:00 p.m. today. we have snow levels to pollock pines and in and around areas from truckee into blue canyon. snow level still fairly low, 3500 feet-4500 feet out there this morning. the winds are picking up. 8 miles per hour in nap awrks 9 in fairfield, 6

pictures of the nasty weather on their social media sites and sending them to us here at cnn. rosa florez has been collecting all of them. what are you seeing? >> you said it well, people are staying inside, so a lot of time snapping photos and submitting them to social media. but it is treacherous out there, one i-reporter submitted this photograph, overturned vehicles like this one in illinois have been a common occurrence in the states getting pounded by ice and snow. i-reporter jason aselen snapped this picture in michigan and also took some video that helps tell the story for him. he says that they're worried, they've been dealing with this for days. normally they see heavy snow first before the temperatures actually drop very low, which means water pipes have snow insulation he called it, but this time they saw about 6 inches of snow, then it rained which created a layer of ice and quite the mess he says. they're afraid that those water pipes will burst, and, of course, he said kids are forced to stay inside. no playing outside for those kiddos. >>> in areas of texas the chilling te

jersey turnpike. what's going on out there, rosa? >> wolf, up with of the things we're dealing with is low visibility. so all the drivers out there using their low beams, there is precipitation in certain areas so they're using the windshield wipers and it's in the 30s. they're also cranking up the heat. let me set the scene for you. you can see that visibility is low. the clouds are low. so drivers are being very careful out there. you're looking at the new jersey turnpike. traffic is moving at a pretty good clip right now. the office of emergency management tells us they're dealing with two things, the southern part of new jersey, ponding and flooding. and the northern parts of the state, they're dealing with snow, sleet, ice on the roads. so it can be treacherous. the department of transportation said they were preparing for the absolute worst. they have about 2,000 pieces of equipment that can spread salt or that can plow the roads. they used 800 overnight and right now, they are assessing the situation. i talked to state police, as well. they tell me there are no major acc

of the country are getting socked with snow again but first, let's go live to cnn's rosa flores in ridgefield, new jersey. how is it out there? >> reporter: well, you know, the temperatures are dropping, visibility is expected to be low and the national weather service just released an advisory with two to four inches expected. so you know exactly what that means. if you're going to be out on the roads, that means that you will need those low beams for low visibility, the windshield -- your windshield wipers for all the precipitation and you have to crank up the heat. i talked to the new jersey office of emergency management and they tell me this storm has moved from south to north, which means that all of the snow and ice and sleet they saw earlier in the day in the southern parts of the state has melted. that's one of the worries, folks, because temperatures are expected to drop below freezing, which means that a lot of those roads are going to have -- are going to be in treacherous condition. they tell us bridges, overpasses, untreated roads are expected to be very dangerous so they're ask
